Photos (1996): Great Liberation
Incarnations of Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche date back to the eighth century, when he was one of the close disciples of Guru Padmasambhava. In a later incarnation he authored The Life and Liberation of Yeshe Tsogyal and in another was the guru to the Fifth Dalai Lama.
In this lifetime Rinpoche received training from and was the close heart-disciple of His Holiness Dildo Khyentse, who requested him to build a monastery in the holy valley of Bhumtang, Bhutan, where Rinpoche now resides as abbot. In the spirit of non-sectarianism Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche has also received extensive teachings from lamas of all the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche has himself transmitted his own special lineage of treasure (or terma) teachings to other lamas, including the fourteenth Dalai Lama.
