| His Holiness The Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa Gives Tenzin Palmo The Title Of Jetsunma | |
| It is with great joy that we tell all friends of Tenzin Palmo and | |
His Holiness bestowed this honour on Tenzin Palmo at Druk Amitabha Mountain in Kathmandu, a Nunnery of about 150 young nuns, on his birthday, the 16th February 2008. He did so in recognition of her spiritual achievements as a nun and her efforts in promoting the status of female practitioners in Tibetan Buddhism. During the ceremony, His Holiness explained that Je means ‘accomplishment of a Yogini and Tsun means ‘accomplishment of the path of a Bhikshuni’. He went on to say ‘Men were always given the privilege to do all practices, but it was not given to women. This is very sad. But now it is different. It would be unkind if I would not give the title of Jetsunma to Venerable Tenzin Palmo for the benefit of all females in the world and the Palden Drukpa lineage.’ Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo says ‘His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa has for a long time been concerned to raise the standard of female practitioners and give them due respect. As part of his campaign on behalf of women, he decided to ‘promote’ me to the rank of Jetsunma (Venerable Master), using this as an expression of his regard for women in the Dharma. When I first head of His Holiness’plans I was quite shocked and dismayed, but the feedback from all over the world was so positive, that I realized this honour was not just about me but included all female practitioners on the path.’ read more .... from Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo | ![]() |
| The ceremony in Kathmandu was attended by many of Jetsunma’s dearest friends and the three Dongyu Gatsal Ling nuns who are Trustees represented the DGL Nunnery. They say ‘We are really happy to have this opportunity to be with Jetsunma for her enthronement. All the DGL nuns are so proud that Jetsunma is the first woman in the Drukpa Karyu lineage to receive this rare honour. This is a good example for all Buddhist women. All of the DGL nuns are very happy that this Jetsunma title is given to our own Tenzin Palmo.’ | |

Precious Guru, all refuge in one,
I pray to you, Great Lord of Dharma,
Look upon me kindly and bless me,
In this life, the next and in between.
In every life may I never part,
from my Guru, enjoy Dharma's wealth,
Accomplish the stages of the path
and swiftly reach Vajradhara's stage.
Through your perfect wisdom, you see things as they are,
Through your great compassion, you embrace all beings as your children,
Through your omniscient power, you uphold the precious Dharma,
Through your boundless kindness, you reveal the path to liberation
Perfect and precious root guru and heart father, Ngawang Khyenrab Lekshe Gyatso,
all the sugatas in one, I bow to your lotus feet.
His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche has entered into Parinirvana on the morning of 22 January 2007 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
When His Eminence Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche heard this news, he praised His Eminence as follows:-
“Outwardly, His Eminence is a Theravadin Arhat,
inwardly he is a great Mahayana Bodhisattva,
and secretly he is a mahasiddha/Vajradhara.
It is truly rare to have encountered such a precious master,
it is as rare as seeing a star in the day”
Feb. 4, 2007 From John Deweese
This year, the annual ten day Sakya Monlam prayer festival began on December 29, 2006, the tenth day of the eleventh Tibetan month, in Lumbini, Nepal, the birthplace of the Buddha, where Chogye Trichen Rinpoche has two monasteries. At each Monlam festival, all the lamas make a great offering to Chogye Trichen Rinpoche with requests and prayers for his long life. Normally, Chogye Rinpoche would always receive the offerings of the mandala, the three objects, and so on, with great enthusiasm, carefully participating in the ceremony. This year, Rinpoche was reluctant to participate and to accept the offerings and wishes for his long life, saying it was not necessary. After repeated appeals by those present, finally H.H. Sakya Trizin requested that Chogye Rinpoche recite the four lines of acceptance, just in order to make an auspicious connection. Rinpoche accepted but only recited one or two of the four lines. This was the first indication Rinpoche gave that he might be preparing to leave his body. (.....continued)
