Buddhist Teacher - Jakob Leschly - March 2010

Jakob is the resident Buddhist teacher for Siddhartha's Intent Australia.
Beginning studies of Buddhism in 1974, his teachers include Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Dudjom Rinpoche, and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. In 1984 he completed a three-year meditation retreat and has since worked as a translator and interpreter, as well as philosophy and meditation instructor. He lives with his family in NSW, and teaches in the Byron Bay region and other locations in Australia and New Zealand, where he conducts workshops emphasising basic Buddhist theory and practice.

Jakob’s workshops were very well received and appreciated by everyone who attended in 2009
and we are pleased to invite him to Adelaide again this year.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in training the mind to gain a deeper understanding of
the theories and the practical application of Buddhist mind training techniques.
Jakob is a very accessible teacher and is willing to discuss the topics in depth with participants.

Friday 26th - 6:30pm - Public Talk

Fearlessness & Presence : The Spirit of the Buddhist Path

Buddhism is a path of systematic enquiry into our constructs of reality and values.
More than that, it is a method to actually free one’s mind of narrow beliefs and destructive emotions.
Meditation is the cultivation of calm and greatness of mind: it is a path of personal responsibility and freedom,
as well as an expression of the willingness to make a commitment to the world

This talk is an introduction to Buddhist understanding of reality and how
we approach it through analytical enquiry and the proactive practice of meditation.

Cost: $15 waged / $10 concession

Saturday 27th & 28th - 10am-4pm - Weekend Workshop

Nectar of the Mind : Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s Mind Training

Training the mind in Mahayana Buddhism means to cultivate courage and dissolve the constructions of ignorance that we create by
ignoring the laws of our world. Training the mind (lojong) is not a moralistic path. Rather, it a method to work with our present conditions by creating a gap in our confusion to discover the basic goodness common to all life. Training the mind is the heart of the Buddhist path of awakening.

Siddhartha's Intent Australia offers this weekend workshop with Jakob Leschly based on a short text summing up the essential points of the mind training practice of lojong. The text exists in book form with a commentary by Kyabjé Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche called Enlightened Courage.
The book can be purchased through Snowlion Publications and a limited number of copies will be available at the teaching venue.

Friday 14th - 7pm - Public Talk

Essential Buddhism

2500 years ago the Indian Prince Siddhartha awoke to complete enlightenment, becoming known as the Buddha.
In his teaching he taught a path of penetrating invalid assumptions, confusion, and destructive patterns
in order to establish happiness and ultimate freedom.

Saturday 15th - 10am-4pm - Buddhist Philosophy

Laws of Illusion

The Buddha challenged our assumptions of permanence and absolutes, but at the same time observed that our world and experiences exist logically on the basis of conditions. We are naturally empowered to shape our reality, see through the constructions that bind us and recapture our innate heritage of enlightened qualities. An introduction to Buddhist perspectives and practice - Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche.

Sunday 16th - 10am-4pm - Buddhist Meditation

Calm and Insight

In Buddhism, meditation is the structure of calm we provide to discover insight into the subtle realities of life and nature. The Buddha taught that to achieve happiness--and ultimately awakening to a mental state free of confusion and delusion--we need to be pro-active. It is we alone who can remove our own confusion and allow the mind to recover its natural condition. If we can step aside and let our mind simply be, we can begin to discover qualities such as gentleness, fearlessness, joy and kindness--our natural state. This does, however, require that we sit down and relate to ourselves and our world precisely and wholeheartedly, without our habitual haste - Jakob Leschly

Dying is one of the most peaceful experiences of life, yet is a subject of fear and grief.
The profound Phowa transmission is an esoteric practice to eject and guide the consciousness of the dying and dead. It helps the dead to choose a suitable rebirth and allows the survivors to actively participate in a spiritually constructive process to let go and help them on their journey. This rare workshop under the guidance of Rinpoche is a timely opportunity to prepare ourselves to face the inevitable without fear.
